Late ex-minister's family booked for dowry torture
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NAGPUR, JULY 17: Family members of former minister, the late Bhagwantrao Gaekwad, have been booked by the Dhantoli police on charges of torturing the former minister's daughter-in-law for dowry.

Among those booked are Abhay Gaekwad, son of late Bhagwantrao Gaekwad, his mother Tarabai, and sisters Jyoti Wagh, Vidya Pawar and Swati Rajwade. The action was taken following a complaint by Anushka (26), wife of Abhay Gaekwad, on Saturday.

In her complaint, Anushka alleged that Abhay, Tarabai and her sisters-in-law were inflicting physical and mental torture on her for the past few months as her parents had not been able to fulfil the dowry demands of the Gaekwad family.

Although the Dhantoli police have booked an offence under Section 498 of the Indian Penal Code against the Gaekwad family, no arrests have been made so far.
