Ganguly features in record stand
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

LONDON, JULY 17: Indian captain Saurav Ganguly and former England captain Mike Atherton created a Lancashire record by plundering 192 runs in their opening stand which helped the side defeat Somerset Sabres by seven wickets in their one day tie on Sunday.

Replying to Somerset's modest total of 198, Ganguly and Atherton scored fluently before both fell at 192, Atherton for a near flawless 105 (115b, 14x4) and Ganguly for 82 off 93 balls, having hit 10 fours and a six in a typically elegant exhibition.

Lancashire's previous best opening stand in the competition was 177, set by Graeme Fowler and Gehan Mendis against Kent at Canterbury in 1986.

Brief Scores:Somerset 198 (J Cox 45; Chappel 3-23, Ganguly 1-27) lost to Lancashire 202 (M Atherton 105, S Ganguly 82; Jones 2-47) by seven wickets.
