Lycos Asia launches portal in India
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

MUMBAI, JULY 18: The website (http://www.Lycosasia.Co.In) will offer highly localised content and services in English and Hindi. The site's content is built in India in collaboration with local content partners and will provide users a comprehensive array of top quality information and services including search, local directories, free E-mail and web-building and channels of special relevance to the local communities.

With today's launch of Lycos Asia in India, we will have executed this plan well within schedule, and are poised to become the true Pan-Asian portal by the end of the year,'' said Mary Ong, CEO of Lycos Asia Limited.

She said that Lycos Asia's entry into India is the most natural and logical step in the light of India representing Asia's fastest growing internet population and the country's fast developing information technological infrastructure.

The Singapore-based Lycos Asia is a 50:50 and US $ 50 million joint venture between Lycos Inc. and Singapore Telecommunications Limited formed in September 1999. It has rolled out a series of local Asian country portals across Asia. These countries include China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and now India. Local country portals for Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines will be launched shortly.
