Dragila makes US team with record vault
SACRAMENTO, JULY 24: Stacy Dragila grabbed the spotlight from the sprinters for one soaring moment on Sunday, setting the women's pole vault world record of 4.63m at the US Olympic athletics trials. Dragila cleared the World record height on her first attempt, improving on the mark of 4.62m that she set at a small meet in Arizona on May 27. She then failed in three attempts at 4.70m, coming closest on her second try but nicking the bar which wobbled and fell. Dragila, who won the world title in Seville last year by equaling Australian Emma George's world record of 4.60m, Had also cleared 4.60 at a meet in Modesto, California, on May 13. She already had the competition, and the chance to represent the United States in the inaugural Olympic women's pole vault in Sydney, wrapped up.
