Panel to represent Kerala accused in TN blast cases

COIMBATORE, AUG 7: Madhani Legal Aid Committee (MLAC) formed to represent the nine Keralites, accused in the Coimbatore serial blast cases, including People's Democratic Party leader, Abdul Nasser Madhani, would move petitions seeking the release of six accused on bail before the Special Court, trying the cases on Tuesday.

According to M P Abdul Latheef, a member of MLAC, S Ramasamy, a leading criminal lawyer from Chennai, who conducted prosecution against former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha in Pleasant Stay Hotel case, would represent the accused, Latheef told newsmen on Monday.

The committee would seek bail for six accused namely Subair, Satheesh, Ummer, Salim, Ayyappan and Basheer and the cases of Madhani, Subair and Raju (Army Raju), who had serious charges against them, would be taken up later, he said.

The committee had appealed in Madras High Court praying to provide the copies of chargesheets in Malayalam to all the nine accused and the orders were awaited in this regard.

The sole objective of the committee was to give legal aid and assistance to the nine Malayalee accused in the case.
