TRAI slashes long-distance call rates
TRAI announced a sharp cut in the tariffs for domestic long distance calls (STD) and international calls (ISD). The new rates would be effective from October 1, 2000, and remain valid till March 2002, TRAI said in a statement.

RBI warns of rising deficits of Centre, states
RBI has sounded a note of caution on the rising deficit levels of both the Central and states governments and called for a well-designed strategy for correction of the fiscal position of government finances in the medium term.

India's external debt rises by 0.8 pc
India's external debt problems are mounting with liabilities set to cross the $ 100 billion mark. The external debt of the country has increased by 0.8% from $ 97.666 billion as of March 1999 to $ 98.435 billion by March 2000, the RBI has said.
