All's well with the PM
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, AUG 28: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was today examined by AIIMS Director Dr. A K Dave who is also an orthopaedic surgeon and advised intensive physiotherapy and medication to relieve the pain in his knees, a PMO spokesperson said.

No decision has been taken yet about a knee replacement surgery. Given the acute condition of the osteo arthritis in his knees, Vajpayee will probably have to undergo either arthroscopy or surgery.

The PM spent a quiet day at home today. Since he was scheduled to have been in Nagpur today, he did not have any appointments lined up for the day. The spokesperson said that in the evening, the PM met some visitors including former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.

Tomorrow, he has a hectic schedule starting at 10:30 a.m. He will be chairing meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Disinvestment, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and a full Cabinet meeting. All three meetings will be at South Block.

According to the spokesperson, Vajpayee does not have problems sitting. His knees trouble him when he has to stand for long periods.

His trip to the United States stands. There is no move to either curtail it or cancel it, the spokesperson added.
