Pakistan asks India to "respect" LoC in Kashmir
Agence France Presse

Islamabad, Aug 28: Pakistan on Monday asked India to "respect" the Line of Control (LoC), the unofficial border in the divided Himalayan state of Kashmir, which is disputed between the two coutries. A foreign office spokesman condemned the killing of five civilians on the Pakistani side on Saturday and Sunday by "heavy" Indian shelling in Kel and Khuirata sectors. The "unprovoked and indiscriminate" shelling also caused "substantial" property losses, the spokesman said in a statement. "The government of Pakistan once again calls upon India to respect the Line of Control and refrain from acts aimed at terrorising the civilian population living near it," the spokesman demanded. Indian and Pakistani troops frequently exchange fire along the tense 760-kilometer (475-mile) LoC. The neighbours have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmir, since their independence from Britain in 1947.
