Three Trinamool workers killed in Bengal
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

MIDNAPORE, AUGUST 28: At least three Trinamool Congress activists were gunned down and more than 16 injured--three of them seriously--by marauding CPI(M) workers at Khetua village under the volatile Keshpur police station in West Bengal today.

Police said here that a group of 2000 armed CPI(M) activists came to the Trinamool-dominated Khetua village in the early hours and opened fire, killing three persons on the spot. The injured have been admitted to Ghatal hospital.

The CPI(M) activists then marched to Parulia, Mohabani and Mamudpur villages and went on a rampage forcing Trinamool supporters to flee the areas, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Viswa Hindu Parishad-sponsored 12-hour Midnapore bandh in protest against yesterday's incident in which one person was killed in police firing passed off peacefully. Vehicles were off the roads and all banks, financial and educational institutions remained closed.

At least 20 VHP activists were taken into custody for forcing some shopkeepers to down the shutters.
