Five crores for bunkers for civilians in J K
SRINAGAR, SEPT 13: The Centre has sanctioned five crore rupees for construction of underground bunkers for civilians living near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, acting Chief Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Development Ghulam Mohauddin Shah has said. Out of five crores, two crores will be spent on construction of bunkers in Karnah area in the frontier district of Kupwara, Shah told a delegation from Karnah who called on the Minister here yesterday and posed their problems as a result of continuous shelling from across the border. The state government was aware of the problems being faced by the people living near LoC areas and was keen to construct bunkers for their safety, he said. The delegation led by MLA, Kafilul Rehman demanded immediate construction of the security bunkers as well as relief for the affected population in the area. Earlier, talking to a group of legislators from Srinagar, who expressed their anguish over power curtailment in the valley, Shah assured them that the matter would be discussed with the power development departement authorities and if possible steps would be taken to re-schedule the curtailment programme to give some relief to the consumers. He said in Kargil, two additional diesel generating setseach of 250 kva would be installed by the end of the current month to overcome the shortage of power supply due to occurrence of a mechanical snag in the Iqbal Micro Hydel project in April this year. NOUSHERA:THE Pakistani army has set up a Border Action Team (BAT) comprising army commandos and militants to attack Indian forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC), a senior army officer said here. "The BAT formations are being given specialised training opposite the Noushera sector by Pakistani regulars to launch attacks and raids on our forward defence posts," Brig Vijay Singh told a group of visiting mediapersons. He said the Noushera brigade had replused six such attacks since July this year killing over a dozen of Pakistani intruders. "We lost two jawans in these sneak type of attacks during the night hours," he added. "Our troops remain fully alert along the LOC to thwart the enemy designs of infiltration of subversives and weapons to this side," another senior officer, Major General N S Pathania, GOC of the division, said.
