Ranga's son says authorities shying away from responsibility
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, SEPT 22: Mohan Kumaramangalam, late Power Minister P.R. Kumaramangalam's son, has protested against allegations that his father's negligence caused his death.

Referring to Indian Medical Association's statement yesterday that Ranga hiself was responsible for his death, Mohan said that the doctors who treated him at Apollo Hospital in April had certified him to be cooperative and responsible. He added that after he was discharged from Apollo, Ranga was advised by a number of doctors to take ATT and was convinced of the fact that he had TB. ``During this time, several doctors who are part of my extended family and friend circle such as my aunt Dr Chaddha, Dr Khandpur and Dr Tyagi, reiterated the possibility of TB and saw no harm in continuing the ATT treatment,'' Mohan Kumaramangalam said in a statement.

Referring to IMA's statement that his father was suffering from Non Hogkin Lymphoma, Mohan pointed out that Apollo Hospital's discharge report never mentioned its possibility.

As for AIIMS, Mohan said that it has not deemed it fit to send even one report. Asked about the reports that AIIMS had sent yesterday, he said: ``It was a long essay on the treatment received my father and not medical reports.''

``The mystery that surrounds my father's death seems to get more and more complicated as time passes,'' he said in his statement.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Mohan said every one concerned was trying to wash their hands off the whole issue.

Meanwhile, AIIMS said today that it stood by its diagnosis that Ranga had suffered from acute myloid leukamia. Director P.K. Dave, however, said that Non Hogkin Lymphoma was almost the same as leukamia and it was not easy to distinguish between the two.
