Orissa engineering college director rescued, employee arrested

BHUBANESWAR, SEPT 23: Kaminikanta Patnaik, director of Orissa Engineering College, who was abducted from his office here on Thursday, was rescued from a village in Puri district, police said today.

Patnaik was unhurt but was found confined in a house in Adhangapada village during a raid by the police late last night.

A dismissed college employee Sarat kumar Biswal was arrested in connection with the kidnapping, SP Arun Kumar Sarangi said, adding, the man confessed of his involvement.

Biswal had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, Patnaik told investigating officers after his rescue. A gang of armed people had kidnapped Patnaik from his office-cum-residence in Sahidnagar area here.
