Invites sent for historic Chhattisgarh function
BHOPAL, OCT 15: A galaxy of important personalities, led by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, have been invited to take part in the historic function to be held here on October 20, to bid farewell to 90 legislators from Chhattisgarh that would become a State on November 1. Sources in the State assembly secretariat said on Sunday that the invitation to Vajpayee to attend the function in the auditorium of the Madhya Pradesh assembly, has been sent since he happens to have been elected both to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. Apart from Vajpayee, others who invited include Union Home Minister L K Advani and former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat - both of whom had also been Rajya Sabha members from the State. A little-known fact about Shekhawat is that he was a Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh when he first became Rajasthan Chief Minister following the assembly elections held at the end of emergency in 1997. After becoming the Chief Minister, Shekhawat resigned from the Rajya Sabha and entered the Rajasthan assembly by winning a by-election to it. Other notable personalities who too have been invited forthe function include senior Congress leader N K P Salve who had won once from the Betul constituency and Captain Satish Sharma, who too had been a Rajya Sabha member from the State.
