Mallika tops again

Mumbai, October 20: Mallika Parekh of Ruia College (Matunga) won the Maharashtra State Women's Table Tennis Championship title for the third straight time. She beat Mamata Prabhu of Thane 21-17 21-15 21-11 in the final held at Balewadi, Pune, on Thursday.

The men's singles title was claimed by Bhushan Thakur of Pune who beat Rohit Chaudhary 3-0. The other title winners were: Aditya Mahagaonkar (Jr boys), Omkar Torgalkar (Sub-jr boys), Sanil Shetty (Cadet boys), Rujuta Rege (Jr girls), all from Mumbai, and Sweta Joshi (Sub-jr girls) from Thane.

Oberoi Towers scored a facile 3-0 victory over Jet Airways in a Mumbai District Football Association League match at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, on Friday.

Results: Oberoi Towers (Sydney M, Santan Pereira, M Pereira) bt Jet Airways 0; Khalsa Gymkhana `A' 1 (M Pinto) bt Punjab National Bank 0; Larsen & Toubro 7 (Savio C 3, O D'Souza, Peter D'Costa, Ramesh H, Alwin A) bt Bosco Strikers 0; St Xavier's (Vile Parle) 0 drew with Dena Bank 0; Companeroes 2 (John Pinto, Garry Majav) bt Sachivalaya Gymkhana 0.
