CPI-M bid to form Third Front
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

BEGUSARAI (BIHAR), NOV 18: CPI-M is exploring the possibility to form the Third Front afresh with the help of former prime ministers H D Deve Gowda, I K Gujral, V P Singh, Chandrashekhar and former chief minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu, Kerala chief minister E K Naynar said here today.

Addressing media persons at Barauni refinery guest house Nayanar said his party had spared Jyoti Basu from the responsibility of the state to enable him to devote full time in constituting the Third Front.

Basu was offered prime ministership in 1996 by United Front leaders but CPI-M Central committee had refused it, he said adding "now we have no reservation to such idea".

Nayanar said the Third Front was the only option to take on BJP and Congress as both the parties have led the nation to economic disaster by introducing new economic policy.
