Delhi register 10-wkt win, Kanwaljeet's effort in vain
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 19: Despite Kanwaljeet's ton and 55-run contribution by Dhruv Mahajan, Delhi registered 10-wicket win over hosts J&K on the third day of the four-day league match of the North Zone Ranji Trophy Tournament played at MA Stadium here on Sunday. However, despite all odds, J&K was able to save its face as Kanwaljit and Dhruv's contribution helped the team to save the innings The team required 268 runs to save innings defeat which it scored. Against Delhi's first innings massive total of 466 runs and 268 runs first innings lead, J&K replied with 269 offering just two runs to Delhi for win which the team scored without any loss. With today's win, Delhi has come on the top with 29 points while J&K had to be satisfied with the 16 points which it had earned by winning two matches against Haryana and Services earlier. Punjab beat Services Former Test player Harbhajan Singh, who is relentlessly knocking the door of National side, took a five-wicket haul as Services, facing a first innings deficit of 343 runs, were shot out for 177 on the third day. Off-spinner Harbhajan (5-40) wrecked the middle order before claiming all tail-enders after Sandeep Sawal (4-41) had rocked the top order early in the day. Services, who were dismissed for paltry 87 in the first innings, looked a bamboozeled as Punjab kept striking blows one after another. Sehrawat hit 11 fours in his 118-ball knock before he was sent packing by Gagandeep Singh when the Services score read 97. Sawal took over the charge from then on and removed Sanjay Verma (18), Sarabjeet Singh (6), Pankaj Maitrey (3) to reduce Services to 126 for 5. It was then left to Harbhajan to clean up the remaining batting order and he did it in style. Punjab now has 32 points from four matches while Services, with a draw against Himachal Pradesh, have just three points and are out of the contention. Tripura out for 170 In reply, the hosts were 45 for no loss at draw of stumps with strokeful debutant Arijit Bose (35; 38 min, 6X4) and Amitava Banerjee (9) doing duty in the middle. Brief scores: Tripura: 170 all out (M Gupta 49; Utpal Chatterjee 3-23) vs Bengal: 45 without loss (A Basu batting 35). Bihar on backfoot Medium pacer Ajoy Barik was the most successful bowler for Orissa claiming 3-57, while former India international Debashis Mohanty took two wickets for 24 runs. Middle order batsman Sunil Kumar was the highest scorer for Bihar with 72 runs. He put on 95 runs for the fourth-wicket with opener Nikhilesh Ranjan, who scored 55 runs. Himachal comfortable Amit Sharma (batting 58) and Chetan (batting 6) were at the crease. Nischal Gaur became only the second cricketer in the history of Himachal Ranji matches to complete 2000 runs after Rajiv Nayyer. He scored 64 studded with eight boundaries. Gaur's 110 run partnership for the first wicket with Arun Verma (37) brought some solace to the hosts.
