Grant's bowling action being reviewed
Express News Service

New Delhi, Nov 21: Zimbabwean left-arm spinner Grant Flower, who was recently called for throwing by the Australian umpire Darrel Hair and was subsequently cleared too, is still not out of the spot.

‘‘After seeeing Grant Flower bowl on Monday (against India at Kotla), both umpires (Srinivas Venkatraghavan and John Hampshire) and myself were not entirely happy with the legality of all his deliveries,’’ Barry Jarman, the match referee for the India-Zimbabwe series said here on Tuesday. His bowling action has been referred to the International Cricket Council.

He said Venkataraghavan spoke to Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak yesterday and conveyed he was ‘‘not entirely convinced that all of Grant’s deliveries were legal but could not get a clear view of him as he was behind umpire Hampshire at a vital stage of his delivery.’’

Jarman, alongwith Hampshire and Venkat, then viewed the film provided by Australian TV network Channel Nine. After watching the film, Jarman said they were satisfied with Grant’s action in that particular delivery but added that the action had not been cleared yet.

‘‘We are satisfied under the new law that Grant’s arm was straight when it (arm) was level with his shoulder however I will be sending the film to ICC for their decision,’’ Jarman said.
