CVC panel for time limit to probes NEW DELHI, NOV 22: A parliamentary committee on the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has recommended that some time limit should be prescribed in the rules within which any inquiry must be completed and a decision taken. The committee's report presented to both Houses of Parliament also suggested that the CVC be made a three-member body instead of a five-member one and its role be restricted so that it does not ``unduly interfere'' with the working of the CBI. The 30-member committee, chaired by NCP leader Sharad Pawar, also recommended that the CVC ``shall not exercise its powers in such a manner so as to require the Delhi Special Police Establishment to investigate or dispose of any case in a particular manner''. All matters of policy and procedures should be decided with the ``majority concurrence of the CVC and the Vigilance commissioners as in the case of the Election Commission'', was another key suggestion of the committee Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
