Israel army says Gaza killing was an ambush
AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE

JERUSALEM, NOV 22: The Israeli army said the killing of four Palestinians near a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday was the result of an army ambush aimed at arresting a Fatah activist wanted for anti-Israeli attacks.

The army said it had set up a roadblock to capture Jamal Abdel Razeq, a member of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction, suspected of involvement in a series of attacks including one last month that injured two Israeli soldiers.

It said the other three victims of the attack, near the Jewish settlement on Morag between Rafah near the border with Egypt and the town of Khan Yunis, were also members of what Israel terms "Tanzim," the Fatah militia wing.

Khaled Abu Oula, head of the Palestinian security force that coordinates with Israel, also identified one of the dead as Jamal Abdel Razeq, who had previously been jailed by Israel for killing collaborators. He said that the bodies had been handed over to the Palestinians, but that a fifth Palestinian who was injured had been arrested by the Israeli Army.
