Telco looks for strategic partner for Indica
PANAJI, NOV 23: Avinash Salelkar, Regional Manager of the Western region of Tata Engineering today admitted that Telco is looking out for a strategic partner for its Indica project to stay alive in the competitive Indian market. While talking to journalists after a consumer meet, Salelkar said that the company Chairman had made it clear in the initial stage itself that the Tata's were looking out for a partner for its Indica project, even as the company has managed a break-even on the project. At present the Indica has a market share of 20 per cent and there is also a growing demand for exports. Tata has already exported cars to Bangladesh, Malta, Italy and Portugal. A large order for 2,000 taxis has also been obtained from Bangladesh, he said. The Tata Indica was launched in December '98 and opened for bookings in January 1999 and received a record 1,15,000 bookings. So far approximately 85,000 cars have been delivered to customers across the country. Indica has held its own among established international players who were already present in the market. The Indica provides customers with unmatched features in addition to excellent value-for-money pricing, he said. Salelkar further informed that by organising consumer meets all over India feedback is solicited on product usage experience from existing consumers. For the first time such a forum was being held by an Automobile Co in India. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
