PANAJI, NOV 23: Two persons were killed and three others injured when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) sentry allegedly opened fire with his revolver at Margao last night.

The sentry claimed that he had fired in self-defence after a mob of some 20 people tried to snatch his revolver when he went to investigate into a complaint of illegal liquor trade.

Police have arrested the sentry, seized his revolver and filed a case against him under section 302/307 of IPC for murder and attempt to murder.Another case of unlawful assembly has also been registered against others involved in the incident.

While one person died on the spot, the other succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital, police added.

Of the injured, admitted to Goa Medical College, the condition of two were reported to be serious.
