Govt milk schemes running in huge losses -- Council
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Nagpur, Nov 30: All the 31 government milk schemes in the State were running in losses and the Government has initiated measures to reduce losses, Maharashtra Minister of Dairy Development Anandrao Deokate told the State Legislative Council today.

In a written reply to Vilas Awchat (Sena), Deokate said the accumulated losses were estimated to be around Rs 180 crore. The Government was trying to sell more milk, increased the price by Rs 1.50 from Jan 15 and also was reducing the overhead expenses. Out of 31 schemes in the State, Greater Mumbai milk scheme topped with Rs 60 crore followed by Akola and Miraj with loss of Rs 14 crore each.

Textile Minister Ranjit Deshmukh said in reply to a question from Ramdas Futane (Ind) that there was no decision to close down textile mills of National Textile Corporation (NTC), running in losses, by the Centre. There were 28,856 employees working with 35 textile mills in the State, he added. The State Government will protect the interest of mill workers when Centre decides to close down or modernise mills, Deshmukh stated.
