Wain attempts towards Mideast peace
GAZA, DEC 15: The recent talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders point wainly at resuming the Middle East peacemaking process amid international pressure. The talks follow the brutal attack on two Palestianin policemen, which the Palestinian National Security describes as an unprovoked incident. The peace talks were initiated when Arafat met Ben-Ami and Sher, aide to Prime Minster Ehud Barak on Thursday at the Erez Checkpoint on the Israel-Gaza border. Ben-Ami and Sher have helped steer peace negotiations during Barak's 18 months in office. The shrine, known to Jews as Temple Mount, has been a focus of violence in which 320 people, mostly Palestinians, have died. The dead include 38 Israelis and 13 Israeli Arabs.
