IA fly past Railways to lift Rangaswamy Cup

Jammu, December 16: Playing to a plan and spearheaded by Olympians Mukesh Kumar and Dilip Tirkey, defending champions Indian Airlines outplayed Indian Railways 3-0 in the 60th Senior National Hockey Championship, to extend their lease on the Rangaswamy Cup, here today.

Railmen earned five penalty corners -- two in first half and three in the second-but they muffed them all.

Airlines were awarded two penalty corners and they managed to convert one through Dilip Tirkey.

It was not best of the finals, as both the teams played under pressure, Airlines grabbed the chances that came their way in the 57th, 66th and 69th minute while Railways wasted the chances and paid the price.

The game was confined to the midfield for 15 minutes and after that it opened up and air lines made the first incisive move which fetched them their first penalty corner.
