Deshpande denies explosion statement
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

PUNE, DEC 26: Renowned Gandhian and former Rajya Sabha member Nirmala Deshpande today denied having made any statement that Babri Masjid could have been destroyed by an explosion.

``I don't know how the RSS Chief K S Sudarshan attributed these quotes to me when I had never made any statement to this effect,'' she told reporters here.

``I presume he might have based his views on the basis of a report appearing in a National newspaper, which had wrongly attributed these quotes to me,'' Deshpande said.

She said the statement, attributed to her, was not only motivated but also mischievous and intended to create evidence to absolve certain political functionaries of a particular political party and their alleged role in demolition of Babri Masjid.

Asked whether she was planning to take legal action against the RSS Chief, Deshpande said, ``Let me apply my mind on this''.
