Bengal agriculture status on the net

CALCUTTA, DEC 26: TheE West Bengal Agriculture Department went online today in the presence of Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee to provide data on the the agricultural status of the state and the country.

The website www.agriculturewb.org contains agriculture-related data like population, land use pattern, crop production status, rainfall, consumption of fertiliser, and per capita availability of foodgrain as well as strategy for future development of agriculture in the state.

Bhattacharjee said some departments including finance and education have already launched their websites, while several other departments, including Panchayat and Industry would go online soon.

The website, Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta was optimistic, would help the state government in securing foreign investment for agro-based industries in the state.

Agriculture Minister Naren De said the website would givean opportunity to the people access to the data base.

Agriculture Secretary Sumantra Choudhury, who demonstrated the website to the Chief Minister, said the data was compiled from various reports and publications of the state government, central government and other organisations.
