Off the record

This week, Jatin-Lalit dominate the scene again with Sarfarosh. And when you listen to their songs, you realise that this duo deserve their success. Of a total of six songs, three are outstanding and three good. The best one, however, is the one you catch on TV channels regularly, `Jo haal dil ka', rendered by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. Very racy-pacy, catchy, and pleasant to hear. The other beautiful track is the ghazal by Jagjit Singh, `Hoshwalon ko khabar kya hai'. A haunting, melancholic number, trademark Jagjit Singh, this one also brags of beautiful lyrics by Nida Fazli.

The third good number is `Is deewane ladke ko', a song sung mostly by Alka Yagnik, with Aamir Khan piping up in between with a word here, a phrase there. Wethinks he's going to make it a policy to have at least one track sung by himself in each film. But then, after the success of Ghulam, that wouldn't be such a terrible idea.`Zindagi maut na ban jaye' is also a decent track even though there is nothing specifically original. A good buy, mainly for the first two tracks on the first side.-- RUCHI SHARMA
