Christians resort to hunger strike against church demolition

Mumbai, Dec 30: The members of Christian community have resorted to hunger strike to protest against the demolition of a Free Methodist Church in suburban Andheri.

The church has been demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities without serving any notice, Rev Samuel Sonkamble of the church alleged in a statment on Friday.

The members have resorted to a hunger strike till justice is done to them, Sonkamble said.

He also claimed that the church was partially demolished about two years back by the civic authoritis for road widening but it was not compensated for the same.

Meanwhile, BMC officials maintain that a notice was served on the church about three months back.
