26 hurt in fresh Midnapore clash
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

MIDNAPORE (WB), DEC 30: Altogether 26 Trinamool Congress and CPI-M activists were injured, nine critically, in clashes between the rival political parties at two villages under Contai sub-division in West Bengal's Midnapore district on Saturday, according to the police.

The sources said, 21 political activists were injured in day-long clashes during which bombs and lathis were used at Kotnik village.

The clashes sparked off when CPI-M cadres tried to prevent TC supporters leaving for a public rally to be addressed by chairperson Mamata Banerjee at Keshpur on January 3.

The injured were admitted to Contai, Tamluk and Bhupatinagar hospitals. The condition of nine TC supporters was reported to be "critical".

As a sequel to the clashes, CPI-M activists looted nine stalls belonging to TC supporters at a fair at Singdamore village and left five injured, the sources said.
