Amanjot Singh powers his way to win

New Delhi, December 30: Chandigarh's Amanjot Singh, seeded third in the AITA rankings, played some powerful tennis to rout his eighth-seeded Jecco T Mathew of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 6-0 and win the ATF Cup Junior Championship in the under-18 boys category.

With his characteristic powerful forehand shots and aces, Amanjot outplayed Jecco in less than 40 minutes to take the title.

In the U-14 boys final, third-seeded Karan Rastogi of Maharashtra overcame fifth-seeded Tushar Liberhan of Chandigarh to win the title.

The highpoint of the two girls finals, both played between Delhi's Bhambri sisters, was the second-seeded Sanaa's 6-3, 6-4 win against top-seeded Ankita, her elder sister, in the U-14 category.

The elder Bhambri, seeded three, however, prevailed over her unseeded sister in the other final to take the match with same score 6-3, 6-4 5 to win the U-18 title.

In the U-18 boys doubles final, Rohan Gajjar and Harshit Sharma beat Amanjot Singh and Akash Sharma 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 while in the girls doubles, Liza Pareira and Megha Vakharia won the title after overcoming Bhambri sisters - Ankita and Sanaa - 6-2, 6-4.

Results:

Boys under-18: Amanjot Singh (Chd) bt Jecco Mathew (TN) 6-2, 6-0.

Boys u-14: Karan Rastogi (Mah) bt Rushar Kiberhan (Chd) 6-1, 6-4.

Girls u-18: Ankita Bhambri (Dli) bt Sanaa Bhambri (Dli) 6-3, 6-4.

Girls u-14: Sanaa Bhambri bt Ankita Bhambri 6-3, 6-4.

Boys u-18 doubles: Harshit Sharma-Gajjar bt Akash Sharma-Singh 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2.

Girls u-18 doubles: Vakharia-Pereira bt Sanaa-Ankita 6-2, 6-4.
