Dharavi neo-natal unit gets a boost
Express News Service

January 1: Sophisticated equipment worth Rs 4 lakh was donated to Sion Hospital to kickstart its neo-natal intensive care ward at its unit at Dharavi. The equipment was donated at a function attended by Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi and other dignitaries like Municipal Commissioner V Ranganathan, Mayor Hareshwar Patil and Justice B N Srikrishna, on December 27.

The civic-run hospital had requested the equipment for its newly-started unit at Dharavi, which will serve as an integrated ward for the women and children of the locality.

Dean of Sion Hospital, Dr A R Fernandes, says the equipment includes warmers, computersied infusion pumps and oxymeters. The ward is already operational and private trusts have pitched in to help start other facilities at Dharavi.

According to Shiva Subramaniam, the Shree Shankara Hindu Mission Trust has been collecting donations by keeping collection boxes at various temples in the city and the money is used to purchase life-saving drugs. They also organise blood donation camps, he said.
