Delhi, Vijayawada schools emerge champions

DUBAI, JANUARY 14: New Era Public School, New Delhi and Siddhartha Public School, Vijayawada emerged champions in the CBSE National Badminton Championship 2001 held here.

New Era scored an exciting 2-1 win over DC Model Senior Secondary School, Panchkula in the boys’ category while Siddhartha Public School overcame International Indian School, Riyadh 2-0 rather easily in the girls’ section. “It is a dream come true for us”, New Era School’s team manager Kishor Guleria said.

Retaining the title for the second time coach of Vijayadawa School team Bhaskar Babu said, “I am glad we managed to successfully defend out title which we won for the first time last year.” Eminent jurist and parliamentarian, Dr L M Singhvi, gave away the trophies at the Indian Sports Club yesterday. It was the first time the event was held at a venue abroad.
