Sachin better accepted Down Under than Sunny
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

JAN 16: Fuelling the hot cricket season here, a writer of Indian origin has said while Australians genuinely love and admire Sachin Tendulkar, for some reason Gavaskar did not receive the adulation he deserves from them.

In a free-wheeling interview, Kersi Meher-Homji, known for his piquant and often controversial remarks, said even Don Bradman has approved of Tendulkar and remarked "he bats more like me than anyone else".

The only two other Indian players who have earned respect there, feels Kersi, are spin wizards Bishen Singh Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna.

Kersi, whose book "Famous Cricketing Families" received rave reviews here, said his number one Indian cricketer remains former skipper Vijay Hazare.

All-rounder Rusi Surti was showered with maximum praise b ythe author according to whom, the left-hander impressed the Australians so much during the 1967-68 tour under skipper mansoor ali Khan Pataudi that he was invited two years later to play in the Sheffield Cup where he made history by becoming the only player to grab a hat-trick for Queensland.

On the upcoming Australian tour of India, Kersi predicted it would be a "decisive one".

Although India have the advantage of playing at home and the fact that they have not been beaten on home soil by Australia since 1969, the Aussies appear to be a superior team, said Kersi.
