Mumbai, January 16: Ace leg spinner Anil Kumble will be operated upon for a shoulder problem in South Africa on Wednesday, and will miss the home series against Australia and the tri-nation tournament in Sharjah also involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Dr Fergusson had successfully treated Indian speedster Javagal Srinath, Ajay Jadeja and allrounder Ajit Agarkar for shoulder related problems.

Kumble may also miss the Zimbabwe tour starting in May. Indians would be playing a two-Test series in Zimbabwe apart from a triangular series involving India, Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
