DF partners unhappy over new industrial policy
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

MUMBAI, JAN18: The constituents of the ruling Democratic Front (DF) in Maharashtra have objected to the government's new industrial policy and certain labour amendments okayed by the State Cabinet here recently.

The ruling coalition allies led by DF co-ordination committee convenor N D Patil of Peasants' and Workers Party (PWP) met here last night and expressed their displeasure with the new industrial policy and certain amendments in the labour laws, DF sources said here today.

The DF co-ordination committee was not taken into confidence prior to taking these important decisions, the sources added.

The representatives of Samajwadi Party, CPM and Janata Dal (Secular) -- all DF constituents -- attended the meeting held at the official residence of Marketing Minister Ganpatrao Deshmukh here.

``We are demanding that the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh must urgently convene a co-ordination committee meeting to iron out the differences'', sources said.

The meeting of the DF constituents assumes significance since the leader of opposition in the State Assembly Narayan Rane, launching a scathing attack on the cabinet's decisions recently, had stated that DF constituents like PWP, CPM and JD (S) were ``interested in sticking to power only and not bothered by the anti-labour and anti-people policies of the government''.
