Aga Khan announces contribution of US dollars five lakhs

MUMBAI, JAN 27: Aga Khan, the spiritual leader ofIsmaili Muslims, has announced a contribution of US dollars five lakh to the Indian government's appeal for assistance to the quake-hit victims in Gujarat.

In a message to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Aga Khan expressed his deep distress over the loss of lives and properties caused due to the calamity, a release said here.

Aga Khan's contribution is in addition to vital relief supplies (food, medicines and tents) and manpower that has already been mobilised by the Aga Khan development network.

Medical personnel from Aga Khan health services as well as volunteers from Ahmedabad and Sidhpur in Gujarat and from Mumbai are en route to the worst-hit areas, the release added.
