We won’t rest on laurels and take it easy -- Steve
SYDNEY, FEBRUARY 11: With the forthcoming India tour round the corner, Australian skipper Steve Waugh will not let his team rest on their laurels and won’t let his boys take it easy. It probably takes much more to satisfy the Australian skipper, whose team has been setting new records in inter- National cricket. Speaking to the local media after the Australians became the first team in history to win every match in a home season, Steve Waugh said, ‘‘After the New Zealand tour in last March, I had said it was only the beginning of what we could achieve. Even though we’ve won every game this season, there is plenty of room for improvement.’’ The summer season ended with resounding wins against the West Indies. The only major challenge being posed by Zimbabwe in the One Day match, where the latter lost by one run. ‘‘Rotation was a bit foreign to us. When you are batting well, you like to keep playing. But the way the set up is now with our team, we’re in it together. We respect each other. We know that when some guys need a hit, others will drop out. Everybody’s playing well and getting used to the system now,’’ Steve was quoted as saying in a local paper. O’donnell, Healy to head commentary Richie Benaud, Australia’s famous sporting commentator may be replaced by Simon O’Donnell and Ian Healy, who are being groomed as the front men to replace him as the head of the Channel 9 commentary team at the end of next summer, media reports said. Benaud will complete 25 years as captain of the commentary team next season. According to a report in the Herald, Network 9 is looking at a change of guard.
