Was Michael Jackson a good influence -- Chhagan Bhujbal
MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 13: Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today hit out at Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray for opposing the Valentine Day celebrations in the city. ``Why did he invite Michael Jackson to dance here if he feels that events like Valentine's Day are harming the teenagers,''said Bhujbal to Newsline. The deputy chief minister was referring to the Michael Jackson show organised by the Shiv Sena during its rule in the state to raise funds for the Shiv Udyog Sena headed by Raj Thackeray. ``Celebrating Valentine's Day is a personal issue and there is no reason for the political parties to get involved in this,''Bhujbal said. ``I have directed the police to take care that the Shiv Sainiks do not resort to any drastic steps,''he said. Bhujbal also pointed out that stunts like these by political parties were putting tremendous pressure on the police force in the city. The government has to provide police protection to VIPs visiting the city, to protect citizens against agitations and morchas and deployment in sensitive areas. ``Now, we are also being forced to provide police protection to celebrate Valentine's Day. This has to be stopped somewhere,''he said. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
