It could happen only in Bihar -- CM’s kin granted bail twice in same case
Patna, February 13: Perhaps, this can happen only in Bihar. Sadhu Yadav, brother of Chief Minister Rabri Devi, has been granted bail twice for the same crime. And the first time, the state police delivered bail at the controversial politician’s residence. Today, Yadav surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) and obtained bail from the court in a case of criminal intimidation against state transport commissioner N.K. Sinha. Soon after they received a complaint from Sinha early this month, the police delivered the bail at his home. IAS officers, particularly members of the IAS Association, who have been receiving threatening calls from unknown persons for taking on Yadav have decided to apprise the home ministry and other fraternal bodies of the incident, feels that the police is out to protect the guilty. Association will chalk out its strategy at its next meeting on February 15. Said Afzal Amanullah, president of IAS Association: ‘‘Today’s incident of Yadav obtaining bail amply makes it clear that the police has connived with him.’’ Amanullah said it was an attempt to grant undue favour to Yadav and reiterated his earlier charge that police had slapped bailable sections in complete violation of the law of the land. He expressed regret over the fact that the DGP R.R. Prasad had justified the police action of visiting Yadav with a bail. Association leaders claim they will now try to find out the reasons why the administration in Bihar has ceased to perform its role. It will work out the modalities to see how to establish the rule of law. They do admit that over the years officers have become part of the establishment. However, they feel the police in Bihar is not working within the parameters of the rule but are actively in connivance with the powers that be. Meanwhile, the Bihar IAS lobby has received a shot in the arm with Governor V C Pande asking the government to submit a detailed report on the incident.Rajbhavan sources told PTI today that the Governor had written to the state government to furnish a detailed report on the incident in which Sadhu Yadav allegedly obtained the signature of transport secretary N K Sinha on an order revoking transfer of an officer of the transport department to Patna from Gopalganj, the MLA’s constituency. The governor has sought details of the episode and action taken by the government after filing of a case against yadav following submission of a memorandum by the Bihar Indian Administrative Service Association (BIASA) on Saturday last seeking his intervention to uphold the rule of law and institution of a CBI inquiry into the case, a Rajbhavan spokesman said. The governor had assured a 10-member BIASA delegation that he would take up the issue with the President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister during his three-day stay in New Delhi from February 16. When contacted, state’s Home Secretary U N Panjiar said the demand for institution of a CBI probe was under the consideration of the government.
