Pak decision to ban fund drive for jihad is unislamic -- Lashkar

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 13: Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba has described the military government's decision to ban public collection of funds by jehadi groups as ``unislamic''. Chief of the Lashkar, Hafiz Mohammad Saeed told BBC (Urdu) last night that this ban was against the law of Islam and if people wanted to donate money to the Lashkar nobody could stop them.

The Lashkar and other militant groups keep donation boxes in public places for people to put money in them, mainly for terrorist activities in Kashmir.

Yesterday, Pakistan's interior minister, Moinuddin Haider, told a press conference in Karachi that these groups would not be allowed to collect money nor would they be allowed to display firearms in public. ``Those who insist on displaying their arms in public despite warning would be shot dead,'' he said.

Saeed said the ban on the display of arms was good and claimed that his people had only licensed arms. Asked if the Lashkar provides training with licensed arms, he said the training was provided in Kashmir and not in Pakistan.

It is about the third time in the past two years that Haider has issued a warning about the display of arms but the military government has not shown any guts so far to act against them.
