``This might be my last election'' -- CM
Express News Service

Chennai, Feb 17: Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi has announced that the forthcoming Assembly elections might be his last, considering his age and health conditions.

He made this announcement at the party's general council meeting held at Anna Arivalayam on Friday even as the participants said `no' to his wish. Some women even broke into tears, disproving his move.

Karunanidhi added that he was not saying so just to kindle their emotions. He wanted to look after the party affairs instead of facing polls.

A party release, which gave out a portion of Karunanidhi's speech, added that the Chief Minister referred to the welfare measures and achievements of the DMK regime under his leadership, and said: ``My only worry is that the achievements should continue to make people reap benefits. I am not saying so because I wanted to become the Chief Minister for the fifth term.''
