International standard golf course at vallarpadam planned
FEB 19: A golf course of international standard is proposed to be set up in an 80 acres land at nearby uninhabited Vallarpadam island. Tourists resorts (Kerala) ltd (TRKL), a fully owned subsidiary of the Kerala tourism development corporation (KTDC), has been authorised to invite prequalification bids from reputed master planners and consultants in India and abroad to conceptualise and detail out the masterplan for the golf course, KTDC sources said. Two sites had been located for the golf course in consultation with the Cochin Port trust. One at Puthuvypeen and the other at Vallarpadam. On the basis of experts opinion Vallarpadam was selected for the proposed project. The proposed facilities include an 18 hole championship golf course, a golf academy with night light facilities and golf and country club, the sources said. The consultancy and management of the project is likely to be awarded to a consortium of consultants who could offer globally competitive and cost effective technology for the construction of the golf course. TKRL would follow the BOI (build, operate and transfer) method to implement the scheme, the sources said. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
