Panic in AP secretariat sticks explode
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

HYDERABAD, FEB 26: A gelatine stick explosion triggered panic in the Andhra Pradesh state secretariat premises today, police said here.

The gelatine stick, which was used for breaking stones in the area where construction activity was going on, found its way into a nearby garbage dump and exploded apparently on coming into contact with a burning stub of a cigarette thrown in, police said.

The loud noise following the blast of explosive material created panic among the employees, who rushed out of the building. However, they resumed their work after the police personnel inspected the area and found out the explosion to be a `freak' one.

Home Minister T Devender Goud, who inspected the area, asked the authorities to look into the matter and take proper action against the contractor who failed to remove the gelatine sticks.

Meanwhile, a report from Karimnagar said Police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a hide-out of an extremist camp at Tirumalapur village under Kodiminal mandal limits here.

The Warangal Range IG, Dr D T Nayak told reporters that the police stumbled upon the huge dump of explosives during a thorough search of a house at Tirmalapur village.

Six naxalites of CPI-ML Janasakthi group, including Dalam Commander Jagan alias Deshaaveni Rajam, stayed for a brief period in the House before leaving the spot, he said.

A Springfield rifle, a .303 mark V rifle, three 8 mm rifles and catridges (29), US carbines (36), .303 rifle (70), 8 mm rifle live rounds (68), kitbags containing a photoflash explorer, a soap bomb, clothes in olive green colour and literature were recovered, the police official said.
