5 states will go to polls in April -- Gill
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAR 2: Chief Electioncommissioner M S Gill on Friday indicated that the assembly polls in five states would be held in April. He, however, said the exact dates for the elections had not been finalised yet.

Five states--Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Pondichery--are going to poll this year. Since, the term of Tamil Nadu assembly expires on May 21 and in Kerala by May end and elections have to be held by then, he said.

Stating that identification was made compulsory during the coming elections, gill said voters identity card was a must for a person to vote. Electronic voting machines would be used in most of the polling booths, Gill added.
