Windies board denies replacing Adams
BRIDGETOWN March 2: The West Indies Cricket Board has denied that it has decided to replace Jimmy Adams as captain for this month’s Test series against South Africa, saying it will announce its decision later this week.‘‘A new West Indies captain will be appointed later this week to lead the regional team in the five-Test series, the cricket board had said in a statement on Wednesday. Many interpreted that to mean Adams would be replaced for the series, to begin on March nine in Guyana. ‘‘I can definitely tell you that a final decision has still to be reached,’’ board Chief executive Gregory Shillingford said in a statement on the Board’s official website. Former vice captain Carl Hooper, 34, who has returned to the sport after two years of retirement, is considered a top contender for the spot. Shoaib’s action review ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday announced that it would refer Shoaib’s case to a local panel of cricketers even as match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, who adjudicated the just concluded One-Day series between Pakistan and New Zealand, sent an official complaint to ICC questioning the speedster’s action. PCB Chairman Lt Gen Tariq Zia said the matter has been referred to a three-member panel of former cricketers Abdul Qadir, Ejaz Faqih and Mosin Kamal. Miandad to stay CHRISTCHURCH: Pakistan’s cricket tour manager has denied reports that coach Javed Miandad will be sacked as coach before the start of the Test series on March eight. ‘‘It’s all rubbish,’’ Faqir Aizazuddin said on Friday. ‘‘Javed will be the coach of this team until we finish our commitments in New Zealand.’’ Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
