Swami held for murder
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA


BARODA, MARCH 4: A seer, one of the main accuseds in the murder of Swami Gadadharanandji, former chairman of Vadtal Swaminarayan Temple Trust, has been arrested in Mumbai recently, police said today.

The accused was brought to Anand on Saturday and would be produced before the court today, the Anand DSP Vikas Sahay told PTI on phone.

The swami was staying in Mumbai for the past 23 days for procurring passport to go to the US. However, he ws arrested before he could succeed in his plans, he added.

The swami and three others were arrested in connection with the murder and were kept in a jail at Nadiad. He was released from the jail on February 8 on a day-long parole on as he wanted to meet his Guru Swami Harjivandas at a temple at Vadtal, near Anand.

He, however, managed to escape after drugging two policemen escorting him and came to Baroda to meet his disciple Jagdish Soni in Harni locality.

Then he went to Jaipur, Udaipur and other places in Rajasthan before reaching Borivali in suburban Mumbai to stay with Ashish Kanhailyalal Shata, a follower of Swaminarayan sect ad chaged his name to Raju Barot.

To disguise himself, he even shaved his beard and moustache and wore T-shirt and jeans trousers. However, Anand DSP Sahay had despatched police teams to various places in the country, that led to his arrest.
