Ayush-64 to become part of National health programme
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, MARCH 8: The government plans to include the new anti-malaria Ayurvedic medicine, Ayush-64, in the National health programme, Health Minister C P Thakur said today.

"The drug will be included in the National programme," Thakur said at the inauguration of the Conference of Vice-Chancellors and secretaries of state governments concerned with education in the Indian system of medicine.

It has been found effective in prevention of relapse of malaria and also has curative value, he said.

Ayush-64 has been prepared by the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and has been patented. Most of the research work relates to its efficacy against malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax in Chennai and Calcutta labs of the council.

If malaria outbreak has occurred in an area, one tablet a day can be taken by healthy individuals to prevent infection, Vaidya S K Mishra, chairman of the education committee of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, claimed.
