PM has a dig at newspapers for publishing baseless stories
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today had a dig at newspapers and magazines in Lok Sabha for publishing "baseless stories", saying that they had their own "politics."

"These newspapers and news magazines have their own politics and play their own games. Sometimes we fall prey to them and sometimes you (Opposition) also do," Vajpayee remarked replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address.

Reacting to the charge levelled against Prime Minister's Office by CPI-M leader Somnath Chatterjee on the transfer of a secretary at the instance of an industrial house, Vajpayee said the Opposition should avoid making charges based on unverified press reports and making baseless allegations.

He said that the functioning of the Cabinet was "quite open" which had never been witnessed before. Whenever there was no consensus on any issue, a Group of Ministers was constituted and its report was freely discussed by the Cabinet, Vajpayee added.
