Giant-killer Clavet upsets Norman in the final hurdle
Reuters

SCOTTSDALE, March 12: Francisco Clavet of Spain completed his giant-killing run at the Franklin Templeton Tennis Classic on Sunday by beating a weary Magnus Norman 6-4, 6-2 to claim his first career ATP hardcourt title.

The crafty, 32-year-old Clavet capped off a week of upsets that saw him oust three-time desert winner Andre Agassi and defending champion Lleyton Hewitt before his final success against the third-seeded Norman. Clavet outsteadied the Swede, committing just 10 unforced errors against 35 from a tired Norman.

Norman had needed seven match points earlier on Sunday to claim a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8) win over Herel Levy of Israel in a semifinal that had been washed out by rain Saturday night.
