26 new police stations in Mumbai

MUMBAI, MARCH 21: The government has proposed to start 26 new police stations in Mumbai, minister of state for home Manikrao Thakre told the Assembly today.

He was replying to debate on supplementary demands for the home department.

Five police stations have already been sanctioned of which one at Mulund will be inaugurated by the end of this month, he said. Rest 21 police stations are proposed and will be sanctioned soon, he added.

The Centre has provided Rs 125 crore for modernisation of the police force and the home department has purchased 300 new vehicles. Besides, 2500 personnel are being recruited, Thakre informed the House.

About the implementation of the Srikrishna Commission's report, Thakre said the special task force was looking into it.
